19 of the Best Maui Food Trucks: Where to Eat (2024)

Maui has a mouth-watering food truck scene! Since the cost of food in Maui is high, this is by far one of my favorite things to do in Maui. I always include a collapsible cooler for beach picnics when I pack for Hawaii, but discovering the food trucks on our recent visit was a revelation! Here’s my list of top picks for the best food trucks in Maui…

While I’ve laid eyes on all of these food trucks, I’ve only eaten at some of them (and those are noted). But I’ve included others based on their glowing Yelp and Facebook reviews.

2023 Update: The pandemic was hard on Maui food trucks so I’ve also noted the ones that have recently closed.

They are among the most popular food trucks. I’ve listed hours as published, but check before you go so you’re not disappointed in case they’ve changed their hours or moved! Note: Hours updated in this post in Feb 2021.

Skip the Kahului airport food! There is an incredible food court of food trucks less than five minutes from the airport.

It can be a little confusing at first as Google Maps will direct you to a large dirt parking lot—just before the Costco gas station— where you won’t see a single food truck.

But if you look to the left after you enter the lot, you’ll see an entrance to a shaded picnic area. And if you walk in, you’ll see all the food trucks conveniently clustered there.

On the day we were there heading to the airport, there was a torrential rainstorm. But it was totally fine! The covered eating area kept us completely dry. You may be surrounded by chickens looking for a handout though while you eat!

1. Thai Mee Up

Hours: 10 am to 8 pmevery day

What to order: Not gonna lie…I had the best pad thai of my life here on the day we flew home from Maui! Other plates people rave about are satay chicken, lemongrass fried chicken, and curry chicken.

Or you can get the fried pork ribs with a scoop of rice and papaya cabbage. Then wash it down with a Thai iced coffee. Yum!

2. Kiawe Wood Fire Grill

CLOSED. Hours: 11 to 4:30 pm Mon-Fri, closed Sat and Sun

What to order: People rave about the burgers here. Some even swear they make the best burger on Maui here.

For example, the Cajunspice burger comes with an aioli sauce, pepper jack cheese, roasted yellow peppers, and chicken sausage! Or you could get the fries with kimchee sauce. Wowza.

3. Iine Ramen

CLOSED. Hours: 10:30 am to 8 pm Mon-Tue, 10:30 am to 9 pm Wed-Fri, 10:30 am to 6:30 pm Sat, closed Sun

What to order: This ramen is consistently rated as one of the best on the island.All the ramen bowls feature a deep, rich broth so you can’t go wrong. Plus, all the ramen bowls come with fat noodles and the freshest of bamboo shoots and bean sprouts.

Visitors love IineRamen for its affordable, generous portions. If it’s rainy or windy at lunchtime, head here for a warm bowl of soup!

4. Like Poke

Hours: 10:30 am to 4 pm Mon, 10:30 to 6 pm Tue-Fri, 10:30 am to 3 pm Sat, Closed Sun

What to order: It wouldn’t be a trip to Hawaii without sampling some poke, would it? So ifindeed, you do love poke, you can’t go wrong at this Hawaii food truck.

If you haven’t tried pokeyet, think diced raw fresh fish with lots of saucy variations (e.g. Shoyu, Hawaiian, spicy). It’s a main dish of Native Hawaiin cuisine.

There are several styles of poke on offer here and you can sample a few with a combo plate. Another favorite: the furikaki curly fries!

5. Dino’s Gourmet On-The-Go

Hours: 10:30 am to 7:00 pm Mon-Sat, closed Sun

What to order: It’s all about the gyros, fresh organic veggies, and burgers here at Dino’s.

Or try the loco moco! Loco moco is another famous Hawaiin dish. There’s a lot of ways to make it, but Dino tops a burger with an egg and greens. It goes great with the garlic fries!

6. Kalei’s Lunchbox

CLOSED. Hours: 8 am to 8 pm every day

What to order: Meat lovers rejoice! The top favorites at Kalei’s Lunchbox are cheesesteak, roast pork, and beef teriyaki.

Basically, you get a generous portion in a lunchbox that comes with a meat, white rice, and a vegetable or macaroni salad. Daily specials are posted each day on the Kaleis Lunchbox Facebook page (linked above).

7. Mo Ono Hawaii

Hours: 10 am to 8 pm Tue-Thu; 10 am to 5 pm Fri, 10 am to 4 pm Sat, closed Sun & Mon

What to order:Diehards come here for the outstanding acai bowls. Satisfy your craving with a custom bowl. Choose from a huge range of toppings ranging from pineapple and coconut to granola and honey.

Or spring for the premium toppings. You can add papaya, peanut butter, liliko’i butter and so many other deliciousnesses.

8. Brekkie Bowls

Hours:Tue 8 am to 11 am at the Wailea Farmer’s Market

What to order: Brekkie Bowl’s owner Holly is a delight and her handmade acai bowls make for a delicious start to the morning.

I can personally attest to this one. Basically, you choose a base of acai or pitaya (dragonfruit) and then choose two fruits to top it with.

All bowls come topped with granola, toasted coconut, bee pollen, and agave. You can extras like nut butters, goji berries, cacao nibs and more for $1.

Brekkie Bowl is located right in front of Makena Crossfit in an industrial area a few streets back from the beach. It can be hard to find, but if you put “Makena Crossfit” in your Nav, you should be good to go!

9. Guadalajara Tacos

Hours: 11 am to 7:30 pm Tue-Thu, 11 am to 10 pm Fri-Sun, closed Mon

What to order: Tacos, of course! Yes, there is Mexican food in Maui.

I’m sad to say I don’t have a photo of Guadalajara Tacos, but I do have a photo of the amazing tacos I ate there. Everything is fresh and delicious.

I can vouch for the horchata as well. (If you’ve never had horchata, you must try this sweet, cold Mexican milk beverage!)

Choose your heat with the variety of salsas, but don’t skip the amazing avocado sauce. Guadalajara Tacos is located just in front of a sweet little church. All proceeds from the taco shop go to benefit the church.

10. Vietnamese Food to Go

CLOSED. Hours: 11 am to 8 pm

What to order: I never thought I’d be craving Vietnamese pho in Hawaii, but on a rainy, windy evening, it was just the ticket!

Have you tried this delicious brothy Vietnamese soup with rice noodles? I like my pho with steak, but you pretty much can’t go wrong with pho.

This is a family-owned place with friendly service. Their summer rolls look delicious too!

11. The Outrigger Pizza Company

Hours: 11 am to 8:30 pm Mon-Sat, closed Sunday

What to order: Try the lilikoi pork pizza! When I read that this pork pizza was finished with a “drizzle of lilikoi”, I was seriously skeptical. It’s fruity…very similar to passion fruit. I’m not fancy in my pizza tastes…I like a red sauce base almost always.

But when owner Kevin Laut told me they were a famous food truck (featured on the Food Network even) for the lilikoi pork, I couldn’t pass it up.

And yep, I’m a convert. My top tip: Eat your pizza there. There may be nothing better than a wood-fired pizza right out of the oven.

12. Da Nani Pirates

Hours: 11 am to 8 pm daily

What to order: This is a popular spot for fish and chips as well as fish tacos on Maui. Think fish tacos but with passion fruit tartar sauce.

I would’ve been skeptical, but honestly, after my experience with the lilikoi pizza sauce at Outrigger Pizza, I bet this is amazing. Non-fish lovers also rave about the smoky Hawaiian BBQ pork sliders here.

13. Earth Aloha Eats

Hours: 11 am to 8 pm Wed-Mon, closed Tue

What to order: Vegan hot spot! This is a new favorite food truck that opened for business in 2019.

And it’s already locally loved for delicious, fresh plant-based proteins. Earth Aloha Eats makes its meat substitutes from Seitan by scratch.

So think vegan versions of BBQ “pulled pork” and “Thai chicken” tacos. Or try the avocado toast with sprouts, toasted sesame, seeds, chili flakes, and citrus juice.

Thumbs up from patrons on desserts, too: rich ice cream and creme brulée!

14. Kraken Coffee

Hours: 6 am to 6:30 pm Sun-Fri, 6 am to 7:30 pm Sat

What to order:Coffee, of course! Kraken Coffee is also new to the food truck scene in 2019.

Just follow the sound of theupbeat dance music and it will lead you directly to this convenient drive-through coffee truck. You can get nitro cold brew or kombucha here as well.

And, if you’re not a fan of the dark and acidic coffee that’s common in Hawaii, you’ll be happy to know Kraken Coffee has developed a unique blend that’s easier on the stomach with great flavor.

15. Ohana Burger

CLOSED. Hours: Not available

What to order: Burgers! With a brioche bun, you guys. Yum.

You can choose from the Papa burger, the Mama burger, or the Baby burger depending upon your appetite. Add egg, bacon or avocado. It’s all up to you.

And don’t forget the milkshake. Patrons love the friendly service here.

16. TaquerEATa

Hours: 8 am to 3 pm daily

What to order:It’s all about the breakfast options here. Try themigas tacos (scrambled eggs with bits of corn tortillas, tomatoes onions and jalapeno peppers topped with cheddar cheese) or the three-alarm tacos(scrambled eggs, pickled jalapenos, potato, and chipotle sauce).

Choose from six types of salsa. Or, build your own taco!

17. Kusina Ni Jayboy

Hours: 11 am to 7 pm daily, closed Sat. CASH ONLY.

What to order:Are you in search of great ethnic food? Head here!

This is all about the incredible Filipino food.Fans of Kusina Ni Jayboy are quick to say this is their favorite food truck on Maui…or that it’s the best Filipino food they’ve ever had.

With more than 7,000 islands in the Philipines, Filipino food is diverse…frequently based on seafood and tropical flavors. Here at Kusina Ni Jayboy, you’ll be transported by the pork belly!

Sadly, I had no cash on me when we turned up here so I’ll just have to head back and try again next trip to Maui. No credit cards accepted so be aware.

Yelpers say there can be a wait because the food is cooked fresh to order…but they also say it’s totally worth it based on the delicious dishes and generous portions.

Maui Food Trucks on the Road to Hana

If you’re heading out to drive the Road to Hana, it’s a full day journey. So you’ll be happy to know there are several food trucks to keep you topped up as you hike through bamboo forests to waterfalls and check out the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. (Don’t miss it!)

The two food trucks below are near Haiku, by theMaui Garden of Eden, a private tropical botanical garden.

Two years earlier, we stumbled upon this beautiful little slice of heaven but I didn’t want to pay the entrance fee to the garden. I mean, after all, it’s easy to enjoy free striking vistas and beautiful flowers all over the island, right?

But then we went to the Big Island. And I visited the fabulous Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden.

I’ve enjoyed gardens all over the world, but that one might be my favorite. So I’m willing to pay an entrance fee at botanical gardens.

Maui Garden of Eden isn’t quite as amazing as the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden. However, it is definitely worth the entrance fee…especially to see the fanning peaco*cks in the parking lot!

18. The Food Truck

The Food Truck is located just outside the Maui Garden of Eden, so you can still drive up the road and eat here, even if you don’t want to head into the garden or pay the entrance fee.

CLOSED. Hours: 9 am to 4 pm daily

What to order:Try the freshly made taro chips and moist banana bread heated in coconut oil here for a uniquely Hawaiian experience.

We had the horchata, but preferred the version at Guadalajara (earlier in this post).

19. Coconut Cafe

CLOSED. Hours: 8:30 am to 4 pm daily.

What to order:You can get everything from acai bowls to Maui fish tacos here, but the smoothies are the way to go!

Choose from pineapple, banana, coconut or lime. Tip: If you’re not going to the garden, you can still go through the ticket booth and stop for a snack before making a U-turn and heading back out!

FAQ about Eating (and More) in Maui

1. Are these the only food trucks in Maui?

Heck no! There are so many more. Begin with this list and then explore further on your own. They are all over the island so enjoy finding them. There’s also a private Facebook group on the Maui food truck scene you can join.

I do not recommend Jawz, a well-known food truck south of Kihei, conveniently located right at the entrance to Makena Beach. They are not one of the best beach trucks despite their claims.

We thought their fish tacos were small, dry, and overpriced. So give them a miss. There are most likely a few other better food trucks nearby.

2. What are the best food options on the Road to Hana?

Definitely the food trucks! You can stop for a meal or coffee at any number of cute little places in Paia, before you hop on the Road to Hana, or on your return.

Otherwise, pack a lunch or stop at the food trucks. There are at least two or three others beyond those I’ve listed that I spied along the road, but wasn’t able to visit.

Restaurant dining options increase once you get close to Hana if you’re headed that far.

3. Where is the best luau in Maui?

The Old Lahaina Luau in—you guessed it—Lahaina, is the luau experience best loved by travelers to Maui.

On the one hand, it definitely felt touristy. On the other hand, it was really something to sip Mai Tais and enjoy anauthentic Hawaiian buffet as the sun set over some seriously talented dancers with the waves crashing just behind them.

So if you’ve never been to a luau, head here!

4. What are some other fun things to do in Maui?

Maui is full of great outdoor activities. And don’t forget to check out some hikes while you’re here.

If you’re visiting in winter, I highly recommend a humpback whale-watching trip. (Whale-watching season begins mid-December.)

When we visited in January, it was “whale soup” out there! We loved our tour. I recommend seeing them up close and personal on an eco-raft tour. Check current whale-watching tour and availability here.

If you love to snorkel, consider booking a tour to snorkel Molokini Crater. Molokini Crater, just off the coast of Maui, is a partially submerged volcanic crater that offers some of the most pristine snorkeling in Hawaii.

When we went, it was like swimming in an aquarium. I recommend choosing one of the catamaran tours, like the one that we did, rather than a snorkel on a huge boat packed with other tourists, for a more individualized experience. You can check current Molokini snorkeling tour prices here.

Drive the Road to Hana, for sure! Or sign up for a tour if you’d rather gawk at the waterfalls and coastline than drive. You can check current Road to Hana day tour prices here.

Plan to set out early and spend a long day driving to Hana and back with plenty of stops! Just remember, this road trip is about the journey, not the destination.

And finally, don’t miss Haleakala National Park. While visitors to Maui love to head here for a gorgeous sunrise from the summit, so many tourists have swamped the park in the early hours, that you now need a reservation to visit in the early morning hours.

Consider instead heading here for a less crowded sunset view. No reservation required.
