Today I’m sharing how to make tiramisu at home without eggs or alcohol that requires only 10 minutes of time to put together. You will be mindblown at how easy this is to make and how insanely delicious it is!

What is Tiramisu?

Tiramisù is a classic Italian dessert consisting of layers of sweet mascarpone cream and ladyfinger cookies that are traditionally soaked in espresso and liquor.

This delicious, creamy dessert is then topped off with a generous dusting of cocoa powder to finish, making it to be one of the simplest, most delicious desserts in Italian cuisine.

Often recognized as the “world’s most famous dessert”, the popularity of this dessert is truly indisputable for many reasons.

The word Tiramisù literally translates to “pick me up” or “cheer me up” in Italian, and it’s worth noting the accuracy of its name.

The flavors of this homemade tiramisu are so amazingly luscious which makes it the perfect afternoon treat to have to give yourself an instant mood/energy boost.10-Minute Easy Tiramisu | Cookerru (2)

Easy Tiramisu without eggs or alcohol!

There are so many different variations of this popular dessert – and the tiramisu recipe I am sharing with you today is a simplified version that has all the incredible flavors of the authentic version.

The homemade tiramisu recipe serves up to tradition, but it calls for eggs, liquor, and a lot of time on your hands to make, and I wanted to create a version that’s equally delicious but with a seamless process that everyone can enjoy.

Traditional tiramisu calls for raw eggs which can be daunting to many and unsafe if executed improperly. This version omits the use of raw eggs by using whipped cream, which simplifies the process and saves a bit of calories as well.

This in itself makes this recipe to be incredibly easy to make as there is no baking involved or tempering raw eggs. Rather, it calls for a simple process of mixing together the filling and assembling the dessert, which only takes a few minutes from start to finish.

Truth be told, the hardest part about this recipe is waiting until the tiramisu sets so you can dig in and indulge in its incredible flavors. 10-Minute Easy Tiramisu | Cookerru (3)

Often, recipes call for the use of liquor, but I’ve also opted to leave the alcohol out entirely. It’s definitely up to your preference to add it in, but I personally think that it still tastes perfect without.

Having an espresso machine is also not a requirement for this recipe, as I will share with you my method of using instant coffee for those of you who are looking for an easier, more affordable way to make Tiramisu.

What do I need to make Tiramisu?

One of the best parts about this tiramisu recipe is that as with many other dessert recipes I’ve shared in the past, it requires only a few simple ingredients that are easily accessible. Here is a list of ingredients you will need:

  • Whipping cream, powdered sugar, room-temperature mascarpone cheese, and vanilla extract: for the filling. You can also use regular granulated sugar for this recipe, but I find that the fine particles of icing sugar blend in seamlessly with the velvety cream mixture.
    • A lot of times mascarpone cheese may be hard to find or too expensive for your budget, in which you can substitute it by mixing together 7 ounces of softened cream cheese and 2 tablespoons of sour cream to mimic the flavors of mascarpone.
  • Instant coffee, or espresso: if you don’t have an espresso machine – you can simply mix in a tbsp or two of instant coffee with a cup of room-temperature water to create the coffee mixture.
  • Ladyfingers aka Savoiardi: these should be easy to find in your local grocery store, often sold in the biscuit or international section. I recommend using the authentic Italian kind as they will bring out the most ideal flavors and textures for your tiramisu.
    • Some substitutions for this include sponge cake, biscotti, or pound cake. Ladyfingers are also easy to make from scratch if you want to stay true to the recipe!
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder: for dusting the top for that decadent, chocolatey finish.

And there it is, all the ingredients you need to make the best homemade tiramisu! I hope you enjoy this easy recipe as this is undeniably one of my all-time favorite desserts.

How can I make tiramisu without eggs?

It’s important to note that the “eggless” attribute of the recipe indicates removing the use of raw eggs in the cream, as the ladyfingers used to layer the cake do contain egg content.

In many cases, the traditional method of tempering raw eggs can be a daunting task in both aspects of time and execution, which is one of the main reasons they were left out of this variation.

To omit the eggs entirely, I suggest using eggless ladyfingers if you are able to source any, or making them from scratch. Here is a recipe from Gemma’s Bigger Bolder Bakingthat could be helpful to you.

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, add whipping cream and beat on medium for about 1 minute. Sift in powdered sugar, add vanilla, and mix together until soft peaks form. Mix in mascarpone cheese and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.

  • Add coffee or espresso to a shallow bowl. Quickly dip the ladyfingers in the coffee and assemble them in a single layer on the bottom of an 8x8 pan. You want to lightly dip the ladyfingers to prevent the biscuits from falling apart.

  • Smooth half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, and add another layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers on top. Spread or pipe the remaining mascarpone cream to finish. Refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours, or overnight.

  • Once the tiramisu is set, dust a generous amount of cocoa powder over the top using a fine mesh strainer. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

To freeze your Tiramisu: wrap the dish tightly in a double layer of plastic wrap and foil and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight and dust the cocoa powder on top prior to serving.
